Yes, Primavera BSS, the largest Portuguese software house on management solutions and accounting is having a nice spring this winter. Mostly for two reasons, one:
In 2009 the Portuguese Government changed the way taxes were filled and in order to comply
with the new accounting standards – PT:Sistema de Normalização Contabilística (SNC) -, all companies should have changed their accounting software. This means a new upgrade and for a few, new software, since some software houses are not around anymore.
With their 13.000 customers, Primavera BSS, released a new version (7.55) of their premium ERP and everyone should upgrade their existent software. Well, if you don’t have an ongoing support contract, pay up buster! So, this is like the Y2K bug, but with a nice bump from the government, hein ?
Second; PT:Primavera Express, the freebie version is being used by the Spanish government to
help unemployed people, by training them in management and accounting. The Spanish program is called PT:”Géstion Operativa Financiera (GOF)” and the software is being used for social purposes, supported by “Cáritas Espanha“. So far the Express version has been downloaded 100 thousand times from the portuguese and spanish portal.
This is a good project, sure, but Primavera software it’s like a sugar addiction, it smells good and it tastes even better, but since you’ve eaten it, there’s no return. The software is that good for accounting, but it’s closed, proprietary and like I said, it’s an addiction. Probably when those unemployed return to the job market, they’ll choose Primavera’s software instead of any other available.

Victor, are you sure “Primavera software it’s like a sugar addiction, it smells good and it tastes even better, but since you’ve eaten it, there’s no return. The software is that good for accounting, but it’s closed, proprietary and like I said, it’s an addiction.” ?
I was working directly with Primavera BSS (as Premium and Technological Partner) and I can not remember one happy customer.
As example try this one http://blog.pauloasilva.com/em-roma-se/ (it was written while I was working with Primavera BSS).
We have other problem with software development in Portugal whose name is not government but its partner: ASSOFT.
Later I will write about it.
